2. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

• your full name, email address, and password when you create an account (passwords are stored securely and hashed by our auth provider)
• optionally, a phone number and date of birth (Profile → Profile Details), saved delivery addresses, and referral code/reward status.

Automatically:

• location: your chosen area is stored on your device; if you grant location permission and tap “Use current location”, we receive your precise location and send it to OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim service solely to convert it to a readable address so we can show nearby vendors. We do not collect background location.
• device model, operating system, app version, and error/crash diagnostics through our monitoring service, Sentry, and (only after you consent) a short session replay to help improve the app.
• standard IP addresses and request logs, generated when the app talks to our servers and the third parties listed below.

3. Payments

In this version we do not collect card or bank details in the app. Vendor listing fees are paid on our website through Paystack, which handles card data under its own privacy policy; we only see the transaction reference and amount.

4. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to operate your account, show nearby vendors and events, connect you with vendors via WhatsApp ordering, process referral rewards, provide support, keep the service secure, and comply with the law. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it to build advertising profiles or serve third-party ads.

5. Third Parties We Share With

• Supabase: data storage and authentication.
• OpenStreetMap / Nominatim: location-to-address conversion, only when you use location.
• Sentry: crash diagnostics and (with your consent) session replay.
• ui-avatars.com: generating a default profile picture from your name.
• WhatsApp (Meta): when you tap “Order via WhatsApp”, you chat with the vendor directly; those conversations are between you and the vendor under WhatsApp’s policy and we do not store them.
• Paystack: vendor listing fees on our website.

We require each third party to protect your data consistently with this policy and applicable law.

6. Legal Basis

We process your data on the basis of: consent (given when you tap “Agree & Continue” and when you grant app permissions), performance of a contract (providing the service you signed up for), our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, and improvement), and legal obligation.

7. Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active and delete or anonymize it within a reasonable period after you request deletion of your account, except where the law requires longer retention (for example, transaction records).

8. Your Rights & Account Deletion

You can request a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, or delete your account at any time: in the app via Profile → Profile Details → Delete Account, or by emailing hello@scoutcity.co. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile, saved addresses, and associated data. You can withdraw location consent at any time in your device settings. You also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.

9. Children

ScoutCity is a general-audience service and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have, contact us at hello@scoutcity.co and we will delete it. Alcohol-related listings are for users of legal drinking age; you agree not to use them to purchase alcohol if you are not of legal age.

10. Security

Data is encrypted in transit over HTTPS, passwords are stored hashed, and our databases are protected with row-level security and limited internal access.

11. Changes

If we make a material change to this policy, we will update the version and date and ask you to accept the revised policy the next time you open the app.

Business verification documents

CAC certificates submitted for business verification are stored privately and are only accessible to ScoutCity staff reviewing your application, and they are never publicly visible.
